US Open 2014: Closer Look - Tomas Berdych

It's been exciting to see H&M, a new entrant in the tennis apparel market, try to shake things up. The Swedish retailer fired a couple mishits and head-scratchers at the 2014 major tournaments. ( See Argentina inspired shirt in Melbourne; Tropical/Floral Pattern w/stripes in Paris; and Red on White at Wimbledon).  However, H&M finally lived up to expectations outfitted its marquee and only sponsored tennis player, world No. 5, Tomas Berdych, with some stylish duds.  According to Tomas, " it’s probably not the most bold, but the simplest, outfit of this season." Let's take a closer look: So what do you guys think of @tomasberdych 's outfit this time ? I like the orange patches ! pic.twitter.com/SeoXY12WGS — TomášBerdychFans (@TBerdychFans) August 27, 2014 Here's a bonus video from H&M and Tomas set to brooding, foreboding music:

US Open 2014: Closer Look - Venus Wiliams

Venus Williams's EleVen line has come far this year. The fabrics appear to be sturdier and the overall designs look more elegant and sophisticated. Venus saved the best for last at this year's US Open. As Venus moves into the 3rd Round of the final Major tournament of the year, let's take a closer look at her outfit: My dress for #USOpen2014 . The Closed Grip dress in Vintage Floral. Coming to the site soon! #tennis pic.twitter.com/qbOKrfPhDF — EleVen by Venus (@EleVenbyVenus) August 20, 2014 The blue and white print complements the Open's vast blue courts. She's wearing the Closed Grip dress in Vintage Floral, a design that doesn't appear to be on sale yet. The keyhole cut-out in the back of the dress is the real standout and gives the dress a hint of flirtiness.

US Open 2014: Style Preview - Nike

It's finally time for the final major of the year and the one GlamSpinTennis looks forward to most of all!  The apparel providers usually save their best stuff for last.  Let's take a look at Nike's offerings:  Rafa Nadal will be back in sleeveless (if his wrist heals in time for NYC).    Roger Federer looks cool as a cucumber in teal and blue.  Grigor Dimitrov (aka Mr. Sharapov) is getting prime-time billing from Nike these days. His kit is reminiscent of Federer's, isn't it? Maria Sharapova 's tunic inspired outfits continue to be a head-scratcher.  Serena Williams in cheetah print reminds us of the good old wild days when Ms. Williams used to sport catsuits.  Her night-time kit has the potential to be awesome, though....   Vika Azarenka will hopefully avoid last year's batgirl sweat swains in her casual shorts and sleeveless top.  Genie Bouchard surprisingly didn't get her own Nike promo. Citi Open 2014: Grand Marnier Craft Happy Hour

On Friday evening, Citi Open attendees were invited to indulge in happy hour while waiting for the start of the night session.  Cameron Thaney with Lagardere Unlimited, the sports agency that operates the Citi Open, explained that the spirited event is in its first year.  The happy hour was designed to serve as a creative way to highlight Grand Marnier and Kappa Pisco's sponsorship of the Citi Open.  According to Thaney, the tournament partnered with Restaurant Associates DC to invite five restaurants down to the grounds to create specialty craft cocktails featuring Grand Marnier and Kappa Pisco.  Attendees were then invited to sample the drinks and vote on their favorite.  At the end of the night, Cuba Libra DC's Putaway Punch  was declared the winning cocktail.  Recipe: Kappa Pisco Grand Marnier Cuba Libre Spiced Rum Orange Juice Lemongrass Infused Pressed Cane Juice (Guarapo) Hierba Buena Orange Peel Club Soda Honorable Mentions :

Citi Open 2014: (North) Americans Storm into Men’s Quarter-Finals in DC

Americans John Isner and Sam Querrey were expected to perform well in the nation’s capital.  Sadly, neither player was able to make into the third round of the Citi Open. Thankfully, their compatriots Donald Young and Steve Johnson are carrying the banner for fans of American tennis.  Donald and Stevie both beat seeded players to move on to the quarter-finals in Washington, DC.  Stevie served as a giant killer, knocking out the ninth-seeded Ivo Karlovic.  Donald prevailed over Denis Istomin, the fifteenth seed, in three sets. Our Canadian friends Milos Raonic and Vasek Pospisil also made the final eight at the Citi Open.   After winning the Wimbledon doubles trophy in early July, Pospisil continued his breakthrough summer in DC.  Vavek played aggressively to dispatch ATP World no. 5 Tomas Berdych in straight sets on Wednesday night.
